FAA Failings - They didn't know they had any!

Have you ever experienced Police Mentality? I am talking about when someone has let power go to his or her head. This is common among security officials, and also anywhere where someone has some sort of authority yet could not quite make the grade of a police officer. I have the utmost respect for any person who is doing their job whether or not it is in this capacity. You will encounter this sort of behavior from time to time with FAA inspectors although most are excellent people. You will also encounter this from time to time with big headed Police officers. You all know what I am talking about.

The FAA also grabs at straws when something goes wrong and just like any other government agency, they have no consideration to public rights in most cases. If allowed to do so without organizations such as the APA, and the AOPA to stop them, they would run us all over. The FAA tries to over regulate to make itself look better; to prevent other agencies from pointing back to them. The FAA has contradictory publications which are not made public. Some of these documents are inspector guidelines etc., that the general public never sees. Once in a while you may see one of these publications or a part thereof as it may apply to a certain circumstance.

The FAA also lacks back-bone. There is no inspector in the FAA who has the nuts to interpret its own regulations (the FARs). Do you doubt what I am saying? Just ask any inspector to respond to you in writing with any request of this type. It will never happen, I have made the request many times.

Although in most cases, the FAA is fair; be cautious and do not expect to much. There are a number of inspectors who are looking for a feather, and your violation may just be it.
